Graffitti, new lambs

Someone asked me years ago why my sheep have funny paint marks on them .... sometimes looking like graffitti gone bad. I have found when so many ewes lamb at the same time and babies ears are so small that I needed to know who belonged to who til it was time to put in ear tags ... they could tell but I sometimes could not in large groups. I have found it best to mark the mama first since placing the marks are easier when you can pick up the babies and hold them to match the marks.

This mama was marked with red dots on the rear and lambs have corresponding marks

This mama was marked with a green dot and corresponding marks on her lambs
that makes it easy to see with the four lambs which two are hers

The next ewes to lamb got a red dot or a green dot on the shoulders.  After this I will go for right side, then left side, etc.  Sometimes with younger or non co-opeartive ewes they will spook and take off running away when they here the pfffft of the paint can ........... sometimes resulting in a looooooong stripe down their side.  This is washable paint that is made for marking livestock and eventually washes out in the rain.

The dog igloos in the top picture came from the thrift store for $30 each.  I originally got them for when the angora goats kid, but with the rain coming when the sheep were lambing they got used early.

Pass it forward! Pass it on! Don't Pass it up!!

Kaye over at GigglesandRaspberries started something! Now Susan at e-i-e-i-omg has caught it and I hope I can {infect} the rest of you -- figuratively speaking, of course. I am copying her post on the rules.

As part of the Hand Made Pay It Forward 2012, I hereby pledge to send something hand made by me to the first five people who leave comments. But wait! Before you hit that publish button, there's a catch! YOU first-five-commenters have to pledge to do the same.  It doesn't matter what you make, how complicated, or simple, it is. And you have to pledge to send them out by the end of 2012. So, there is no deadline looming over your shoulder, breathing guilt fumes down your collar. You have the whole year.

And, if you happen to procrastinate until December of 2012 it's your own darn fault. I hope that there are five readers out there who are game. Please leave me a hint as to your favorite color and I will see where that creative mind will take me from there.

O.M.G ..... did you know ...................

Sometimes I search blogs looking for similar interests, like: Sheep, Goats, Border Collies, Thrift Stores or even location.  Well today I was searching on Location ............. and low and behold there is a very clear picture of a nude male, and his interests on his profile.

I went looking for Google's policy and this is what I found.

This is copied from Google's Content Policy:

Adult Content: We do allow adult content on Blogger, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. But, please mark your blog as 'adult' in your Blogger settings. Otherwise, we may put it behind a 'mature content' interstitial.

Wonder how many teenager's search for someone with location being a criteria and stumble on this one's blog.  Anyone over 13 can have a blog account and I am quite sure there are some if their friends are blogging and they are not 13 yet they open their account anyway.

I bought myself a new toy

It's a blower, vacuum, mulcher

This is what the patio looked like with all the leaves
from 2 Fruitless Mulberry trees

I was sweeping up all the leaves and putting them in
large pots I saved from trees I had planted and intended
to let them compost in the pots.

Another Great Day at the Thrift Store

I almost didn't stop at the Salvation Army Store last week, I had to make
an emergency trip to the vet and I had 3 dogs with me .... oh well, I just take a
quick look around.

My latest finds ... I didn't photograph all the trays and cups
5 Candlewick Snack Trays
8 Candlewick Cups
3 Candlewick Ball Stem Glasses
1 Wide Mouth Kerr Canning Jar

A nice Lantern, needs a little cleaning

9" J. Godinger and Co.
"Still Life"

A small decorative plate with grapes and vines

The total cost of the items on the price tags was $34.40
but there was something called a "rack discount"
add to that my senior discount
and I paid only $17.59 for all 20 items.

Happy Birthday Bella

Bella is a year old today, I tried earlier to post her picture and I finally had to give up and go
out and do chores.   Hopefully the next couple of days I won't have a problem posting pictures.  Yesterday brought 2 more lambs and another one late this afternoon.  So glad the freezing overnight temperatures are leaving us.  Found some good finds at the thrift store today and hope I can download those pictures soon.

Happy Birthday Bella

Well after trying to get Bella's Birthday picture to post for the last hour I have decided on giving up on the picture.  Bella is one year old today and a very special girl.
