Sick, Goats in the Bathtub, Snow ... what a week

Started last Sunday sick, didn't do evening chores until after 6 p.m., almost dark, dang, two angora goats kidded, shearer is not coming until the end of March, tried clipping the long mohair away from one side on each of the does so babies could find the udders.  After 9 p.m. still babies had not nursed so I milked out colostrum from each doe and brought the babies into the house and put them in a box in the bathtub after getting them full of the colostrum.  My intentions were to put them back out with the does in the morning, well best laid plans did not happen with change in the weather.  Temps went from mid 70's down to freezing in a matter of couple of days.  Glad the snow is just a bit higher in elevation than me.  Babies have graduated to a bigger box, now I need to move them to a big dog crate out to the porch before they start climbing out of the bathtub and onto the sofa in the living room to watch TV.  I really need to buy them airline tickets and send them to Sara.

These girls need a name ... something that starts with a "D", will have to look at my
list of "D" names I started for Shetland Lambs

The Dorpers have a good view of the snow ....

So glad I am below the snow line ......

Snow has started to melt

And my Daffys are blooming ...........

  2. I take it the does would not accept their babies at this point? If you send them to Sara, they WILL get to sleep on the couch and watch TV! ;-)

I love the naming game. Here's some: Dahlia, Delilah, Diva, Diamond Lil, Dove, Deborah, Demure....

  4. I feel for you as I was in the same boat. Sick and delivering kids. I only had two in the house for one night. Thank goodness all Mama's are doing what they are supposed to do. Hope you feel better soon and the temps warm back up for you. Those are some seriously cute babies. I'll buy them a ticket to come to Florida!

How about some flower names? Dahlia and Daisy

  5. Ugh, just when you have the extra burden of the little lambs in the house, you're feeling crummy.

I always named our goat kids using names of herbs and spices. However, the letter "D" doesn't come up much in that realm! Dill (Dilly), Dandelion (Dandy), Dittany (Ditty), Dock and Dogwood which sound more masculine . . . but what you would do for a nickname, I don't know.

Take care of yourself and feel better soon.

  6. Ooops, meant to say "little kids" in the house rather than "lambs!"

  7. Cute kids!
Are you going to still try getting them out to the mom?

  8. So sorry to hear about all the problems, and being sick does not help at all.
Lambing started Feb.14 for me, and I have already been in the barn more hours than in the house. And I have only had 3 sheep lamb. 5 lambs so far and a lot more to go.
And I know you can agree with this, no two years have ever been the same ... Good luck, I'm bottle feeding one in the pen with Mama, his sucker doesn't work to good ... LOL ...
Hope you feel better soon and Mama goat will be able to take her kids.

  9. Seems like I read somewhere that, if you curl up on the couch with one or two lambs or kids, you'll feel much better soon.

  10. They are cute little girls, I can just imagine them curled up on the sofa watching TV! LOL!!
I hope you are feeling better. It is certainly no fun being sick, especially when there are chores to be done!

  12. Boy, that title says it all! Looks like you just missed that snow, which would have made chores even more challenging. Those angora kids are adorable and it's amazing how fast they grow. Hope you're feeling better - any chance the does would accept the kids now, or has too much time passed?
